Writing &
Appreciating Modern & Contemporary
Poetry
X101.2 (2
semester units in
English)
Reading and writing
poetry is really a dialogue with other
poets, both living and dead. People who
write poetry also need to read it and hear
it. In this course, the first half of each
session is devoted to discussing modern
and contemporary poetry. The second half
is conducted as a writing workshop,
emphasizing the development of language
and images. In your own writing in class,
you are encouraged to experiment with
various styles and techniques, with the
aim of achieving honesty in poetic
expression. Enrollment is
limited.
