San Francisco International Arts Festival presents the world premiere of DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE Requiem for a King, an instrumental and vocal multi-movement jazz and spoken word work, featuring spoken word written for this performance by educator, scholar, activist and author Angela Davis, music composed by Anthony Brown and performed by the Asian American Orchestra and Voices Of A Dream vocal ensemble; DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE honors the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the legacy of the civil rights movement; the evening length concert includes Anthony Brown's seminal work GO FOR BROKE!, composed for the 75th anniversary of the February 1942 signing of Executive Order 9066, which forced over 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry into interment camps during World War II, the performance features a reading by former San Francisco Poet Laureate and community activist Janice Mirikitani, Cowell Theatre, Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, 2 Marina Boulevard, San Francisco, $25-$65 reserved seating, 8:00 (www. sfiaf.org/2018_anthony_brown_and_angela_davis)
