21st Annual Watershed Environmental Poetry Festival features Jane Hirshfield, Alison Hawthorne Deming, Juliana Spahr, Pireeni Sundaralingam, Wes "Scoop" Nisker, John Shoptaw, Vincent Medina on the language of the Ohlone, and more; California Poets in the Schools students read led by poet-teachers John Oliver Simon and Maureen Hurley; more readings by poet/biologist Maya Khosla, poet Judy Halebsky, former Sonoma County Poet Laureates Katherine Hastings and Bill Vartnaw, and Nevada City eco-poet Chris Olander; We Are Nature Open Mic, (to read, enter lottery on site at noon); with hosts Richard Silberg and Kirk Lumpkin and music by The Barry Finnerty Trio; River Village exhibits by literary and environmental organizations; books for sale and signing at the Pegasus Downtown tent; bring your lunch or get it at the Farmers' Market; one block west from Berkeley BART; 100 Thousand Poets for Change event co-sponsored by Poetry Flash, Ecology Center/Berkeley Farmers' Market, Moe's Books; wheelchair accessible, for ASL interpreters request by email by September 23; Berkeley Civic Center Park, Martin Luther King, Jr. Way at Center Street, Berkeley, noon-4:30 (510/525-5476; to table or exhibit, e-mail: info@poetryflash.org)
