The San Francisco Public Library presents a reading and public discussion with the writers from Black Fire: This Time, Volume 1, a powerful anthology that explores the history of the Black Arts Movement, featuring the work of over 100 poets and writers, the majority of whom are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the reading will feature playwright Judy Juanita, former San Francisco Poet Laureate devorah major, califia's daughter, poet Michael Warr, poet and activist Karla Brundage, storyteller Amber Butts, poet Landon Smith, publisher Tureeda Mikell, writer and educator Meilani Clay, and poet and musician Avotcja, moderated by Dr. Kim McMillon, producer, playwright, and editor of the anthology, in-person, Latino/Hispanic Meeting Room A, San Francisco Main Library, 100 Larkin Street, San Francisco, free, 1:00-3:00 pm PST (More information here: sfpl.org/events/2022/11/06/author-kim-mcmillon-black-fire-time-san-francisco-part-2)

  • "Words, blue flowers streaming…" presents poetry and music to celebrate spring in the garden, poetry written by Jaime Robles for the event will be sung and spoken, with voice and bird whistle, with Gael Alcock, cello and voice, Nancy Beckman, shakuhachi, double ocarina, and voice, and Tom Bickley, recorders and voice; a selection of short instrumental works for recorder and cello by Thomas Morley and Gael Alcock, and solos for shakuhachi, recorder, and cello will begin the afternoon, conversation and refreshments to follow, at The Tiger Garage Garden, a private studio, South Berkeley, near Ashby BART, location provided when you reserve a seat by emailing Tom Bickley, free, limited seating, reserve early, 3:00 pm (Reservation required, please email Tom Bickley, tbickley@gmail.com)
